VIDEO: Grizzly 399 and Her Cubs Reach Her Den Spot in Teton

It's been a wild year for Grizzly 399 this year, as it has been for many of us.  She left Yellowstone and Teton's relative safety, where she is often sighted on the roads, to forage in Jackson Hole, where there was a much-increased danger of getting herself in trouble.  Then there was the question. Thankfully, now the most famous grizzly in the world and her cubs were going to find enough food to get to hibernation weight before winter set in.

But thanks to a fairly late-onset winter, Grizzly 399 and her cubs have reached their den spot in Teton, and they're looking downright roly-poly.  Now they'll probably settle in for a nice long sleep, as I'm sure many of us would like to do too after the holidays.

Historically, Grizzly 399 relies on the gut piles of elk left in the park by hunters.  And thanks to a higher-than-normal preponderance of gut piles in the Teton area this winter, she and her cubs have been able to plump up considerably since their alarming excursion into Jackson.  She'll likely stay away while there are still gut piles to be found, but soon they'll be resting peacefully in their den.

This video was filmed by someone who saw the pleasantly plump bears near a road in Teton.  Just look at how big those cubs are now - they look like big brown marshmallows!
