I am interested in restoring passenger rail service through "the southern route" of Montana. For it to work, it has to be regular, reliable, efficient, economically competitive and comfortable. Rather than reinstating service of locomotives pulling a dozen passenger cars two or three days a week, I would like to see the newly developed Rail Authority consider purchasing American made self-propelled passenger cars that carry up to 94 people. And I would suggest these cars leave twice daily from the major cities along the southern route in each direction. They would connect with the Empire Builder near the east and west borders of the state. Service could also connect the two east-west routes through Butte and Great Falls. These cars could also connect southward from Billings and Butte. I figure 18 units of rolling stock ought to do it, but I don't know anything about running a railroad. It seems to be doable.
