Yes, sure, shoot in the air and HOPE that doesn't trigger the animal to leap forward and attack her before she can get a shot in.
She did the right thing, She clearly did not want to shoot the animal. She tried more than I would have to scare it off.
You'd have probably pee'd your pants and been mountain lion dinner....
