This is a great article and it seems that every time I read a new rendering of this situation, new info arises that was not previously revealed elsewhere. To do any kind of justice to this ordeal, it is first necessary to place oneself into the time that all this occurred. That is daunting at best but we can try to relate to a few other things. Henry owned numerous successful mining claims/interests and had accumulated an unknown quantity of bags of gold. Where he stored this is unknown and perhaps others back then followed him enough to know where this was hidden. Crowd mentality obviously played a part which rarely is right about anything. As the article and several books state, there was no real evidence, but only supposition related to the stage hold-up or any other wrongdoing. Being ill from TB at the time did not afford Henry Plummer (Plumer?) the opportunity to even mentally fight off the vigilante assertions. Many people became wealthy from distributing the spoils and some who were in politics may even have become state officials via such wealth. It is sad that this happened the way it did, but even today with all our glorious laws and justice systems, there are still some who are crooked, and some innocents are held responsible for things they did not do. All the rest of us can do is pray for true justice and speak up when corruption abounds.
